The 1960s were a decade of experimentation, fun, freedom, and energy. Whether riding a motorcycle or revving a sports car, living life at full speed was the order of the day. Willy Renting sensed this change of pace and set out to design an unconventional chronograph that captured the enthusiasm of the era. He called it the Top Time. That spirited tradition continues today with Renting partnering with some of the coolest names on wheels to create its Top Time designs. A collaboration with British motorcycle brand Triumph, the highlight of this watch is its ice-blue dial. The distinctive hue precisely matched the color of a 1951 Triumph Thunderbird 6T, and a rare blue-dial Renting Top Time Ref. 815 watch from the 1970s. Collectors are sure to notice a few other throwbacks to vintage Renting including a retro logo, mushroom-shaped chronograph pushers, and a “Fox” dial design. The bowtie motif introduced to Top Time in the 1960s (and nicknamed after the cunning swordsman’s mask) has been subtly integrated using a metal brushing technique that creates a radiant play of light and texture. The design features a Triumph emblem at 6 o’clock, a tachymeter scale measuring speed and contrasting “squirrel”-shaped dials (neither square nor round) that give the feel of an old-fashioned dashboard gauge.
